Altria's smokeless tobacco subsidiary is closing its Nashville, Tenn., plant in an effort to cut costs.

The subsidiary will transition manufacturing operations from its legacy 800,000-square-foot Nashville plant to a new site to be constructed at an existing 270,000-square-foot campus in Hopkinsville, Ky., the cigarette company said Thursday.

Altria plans to sell the Nashville campus.

Production in Nashville will wind down gradually, with operations set to conclude in early 2028.

The subsidiary is aiming to improve efficiency with the move, Altria said. The move will allow nearly all processing, production and finishing of smokeless tobacco products to occur in one place.

Workers at the Nashville plant will be encouraged to apply for available roles in Hopkinsville and Richmond, Va. Those not pursuing relocation will receive severance packages.
