Industry magazine ATL reported last Friday on an outbreak of avian influenza at a chicken farm in Torsås municipality, south of Kalmar.

"There are 48,000 animals at the facility that will be culled," the magazine wrote, after interviewing the farm's CEO.
The culled animals are so-called parent stock: hens that lay eggs which in turn become broiler chickens.

Kronfågel's Head of Communications, Janneke Wackerberg, is the spokesperson for Scandi Standard when Dagens industri inquires about the influenza. She confirms that the farm in question is a supplier, without specifying what share of Scandi Standard's production the farm represents.

Wackerberg emphasizes that avian influenza is a recurring seasonal phenomenon that the industry manages every year, and no significant financial impact is expected from the outbreak at the farm outside Kalmar. However, the supply of chicken has been lower than planned at the beginning of the year.
