Mining company Boliden has suffered a diesel spill at its Aitik mine in Gällivare.
A total of approximately 5,000 liters were spilled, but according to the company, the incident does not affect production. This was reported by the company to Dagens industri.
“It was a mishap during operations. We are handling it routinely,” Boliden spokesman Klas Nilsson told Di.
The spilled fuel is estimated to be worth 83,200 kronor, based on the current diesel price of 16.64 kronor per liter at the pump.
Boliden AB is Europe's No. 3 zinc and copper producer. The group is also active in metal casting, refining, and recycling. Boliden AB also produces gold, silver and lead. Net sales break down by activity as follows:
- metal production and processing (96%);
- metal extraction (4%): primarily zinc and copper.
At the end of 2024, the group had 5 mines located in Sweden (3), Finland, and Ireland.
