Boliden Kevitsa has called for union negotiations after the Finnish mining tax was quadrupled. Up to 285 of the more than 500 employees could be affected. At the same time, a planned investment decision of approximately €1 billion to extend operations beyond 2034 has been put on hold, according to a press release.

"Unfortunately, it appears that Finland has chosen a path that creates challenges for the capital-intensive mining industry," says Tom Söderman, CEO of Boliden Kevitsa.

The negotiations are expected to be concluded within six weeks and will involve all employees.

Kevitsa is a major supplier of copper and nickel concentrate to the Finnish smelter Boliden Harjavalta.
