The Canadian dollar weakened against the greenback on Thursday, and the yield on benchmark government debt slipped. 

The loonie was trading 0.3% lower at C$1.3983 to the greenback, or 71.52 U.S. cents, after trading in a range of 1.3932 to 1.3989.

Canadian government 10-year bond yields fell 3.7 basis points to 3.46%. The yield on similar U.S. government benchmark debt fell to 4.5284%.

U.S. July crude futures fell 2 cents to $90.01 a barrel on Thursday.

The value of building permits in Canada fell -7.6% in April, Statistics Canada said.
