Investment bank Citi anticipates a significant drop in gas prices and is advising investors to take a short position in Norwegian oil giant Equinor.

For 2026, Citi recommends buying British BP and ConocoPhillips, while suggesting the sale of Equinor and Neste, according to the Norwegian financial newspaper Finansavisen.

Equinor is seen as a bet on falling gas prices.

"The consensus from Visible Alpha uses a gas price of $10.4 per MMBtu for 2026 and $8.6 per MMBtu for 2027. Both are higher than the $5-8 per MMBtu range we expect prices to move towards," writes Citi.

Citi has previously maintained a sell recommendation on Equinor, according to Bloomberg's database.
