Communications-services rose, but not by as much as the broad market, as traders rotated into the red-hot tech sector.

AT&T, T-Mobile US and Verizon Communications are teaming up to boost coverage and connectivity in remote regions across the country.

Cable-television firm Versant Media's first-quarter earnings topped the Wall Street target, primarily driven by a major licensing deal for the reality show "Keeping Up With the Kardashians," according to analysts at brokerage TD Cowen.

Satellite operator Iridium Communications agreed to take full control of a company that tracks airplane movements, betting it can grow the air data provider into a bigger business.
