(Alliance News) : Eni Spa and Fincantieri Spa announced on Wednesday the signing of a strategic agreement to enhance and develop the proprietary 'Clean Sea' technology on a global scale. The subsea robotic system is designed for monitoring marine ecosystems and underwater infrastructure, including the verification of operational integrity.

The agreement provides Fincantieri's subsidiary, IDS : Ingegneria dei Sistemi, with an exclusive license for the commercialization and industrialization of the technology. It is intended for underwater inspections and applications related to the energy transition in the offshore market, with a specific focus on Carbon Capture & Storage projects in marine environments.

IDS will be able to utilize the platform for both Eni's operations and for third-party clients.

Clean Sea is based on a hybrid ROV/AUV architecture that allows for both remote-controlled and autonomous operations, integrating sensor modules dedicated to water sampling, visual analysis, and 3D acoustic reconstructions.

The technology will also be integrated with the autonomous platforms and unmanned systems developed by Fincantieri to expand its applications and scalability.

Lorenzo Fiorillo, Director of Technology, R&D & Digital at Eni, stated that 'the agreement with Fincantieri confirms the value of Eni's innovation activities,' adding that the Clean Sea technology 'has earned recognition from a cutting-edge operator in the sector.'

Matteo Marchiori, CEO of IDS, stated that the collaboration will allow the company to 'accelerate its industrialization and distribution in international markets.'

Eni shares are down 0.8% at €21.83 per share, while Fincantieri is trading down 0.4% at €11.325.
