Eni has finalized a 70 million dollar investment to acquire a stake in the Canadian company Nouveau Monde Graphite, a player in the natural graphite and advanced battery materials sector.

Specifically, according to a press release, Eni subscribed to a portion of a 309.5 million dollar total capital increase by Nouveau Monde Graphite (NMG) aimed at private investors and the market, securing an 11.6% interest and the right to a seat on the board of directors.

The investment, announced last April, 'is part of Eni's strategy to diversify its supply chains, specifically allowing it to enter the critical minerals value chain,' the statement explained.

Through this transaction, Eni will gain access to dedicated supplies of graphite and battery anode materials, further supporting the group's plans for a stationary lithium battery gigafactory in Brindisi.

Nouveau Monde Graphite is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange.
