Norwegian oil giant Equinor has signed a two-year agreement to supply biomethanol to the shipping company Wallenius Wilhelmsen, according to a press release.

The fuel will be used in the shipping line's new methanol-powered vessels, with deliveries expected to commence at the end of the year. The new fuel is intended to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from shipping.

Equinor has previously signed similar biomethanol supply agreements with companies including Maersk and Norwegian Cruise Line, the statement further noted.

No specific volumes or contract values were disclosed.
