Estée Lauder has filed a lawsuit against Walmart alleging the retailer sold knockoff versions of some of cosmetics company's fragrances and skin-care products.
The lawsuit, filed in federal court in California, accused Walmart of trademark infringement and false designation of origin. The lawsuit alleged that Walmart sold products through its website with identical or substantially indistinguishable branding to some of Estée Lauder's brands, such as Le Labo, Clinique, La Mer, Tom Ford and Aveda.
A spokesperson for Walmart said the company is aware of the complaint and has zero tolerance for counterfeit products.
"We will respond appropriately with the court when we are served," the spokesperson said.
The lawsuit seeks a court order that would prevent Walmart from selling the alleged counterfeit products as well as monetary damages.
