DUISBURG (dpa-AFX) - Electric vehicles have seen stellar sales recently, a trend that is now translating into shrinking discounts, according to industry expert Ferdinand Dudenhoeffer. In his latest discount study, he notes a slight decline in price concessions for EVs, while incentives for internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles have edged up marginally.
"High fuel prices are prompting car buyers to reconsider electric vehicles, and automakers are feeling the shift; otherwise, they would not have scaled back discounts slightly," Dudenhoeffer writes. This points to a positive outlook: "In our assessment, the electric car will gain market share in the coming months."
Conversely, he expects demand for ICE vehicles to decline, partly because consumers are unsettled by the current situation: "Customers are either waiting or switching to electric cars," the expert says. A market share of 25 percent by year-end is not unrealistic. In March, following a massive surge in EV registrations, the share stood at 24 percent./ruc/DP/zb
