The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will take action against entities producing large quantities of illegal copies of FDA-approved medications.

"The FDA will take swift action against companies that are marketing illegal copies of drugs on a large scale and claiming they are similar to FDA-approved products. The FDA cannot verify the quality, safety, or effectiveness of medications that have not been approved," wrote FDA Commissioner Marty Makary.

This announcement comes after Novo Nordisk warned that actors are producing significant amounts of illegal copies. Yesterday, it was announced that telehealth company Hims & Hers Health will begin offering a copy of Novo Nordisk's new Wegovy pills at an introductory price of $49 per month, about $100 less than the original. Novo Nordisk stated that it will pursue legal and regulatory action.
