Finnish energy group Fortum, alongside three other European utilities, has entered into an agreement with France's Framatome to develop a fully European nuclear fuel supply chain for VVER reactors, including the Loviisa power plant, according to a press release.

The collaboration aims to diversify fuel sourcing and reduce Europe's reliance on imported energy. The project will be executed in several phases, with design work followed by manufacturing and licensing, targeting potential deliveries in the early 2030s. In parallel, Fortum continues to pursue a similar ongoing project with Westinghouse.
