Fortum Battery Recycling is updating its operating model and leadership structure to support its growth ambitions and to better serve the European battery industry. The updated structure establishes clear responsibilities and mandates, while aligning resources with Fortum Battery Recycling's long-term growth strategy and development of strategic partnerships.

The business will now operate through three core areas:

  • Battery Recycling Services: Serving battery recycling customers with mechanical recycling services.
  • Battery Raw Materials: Focusing on the production of recycled battery chemicals from Fortum's hydrometallurgical operations.
  • Technology & Growth: Leading strategic planning, technology development, and investment projects.

In addition, a new Strategic Partnerships function is being established to focus on strengthening collaboration and securing funding for future investments. This function will play a key role in building partnerships and facilitating closed-loop recycling solutions for customers, complementing the operational areas and supporting long-term growth.

The leadership team, committed to creating the most efficient and sustainable battery recycling processes in the industry, will continue to be led by Anssi Airas, Head of Battery Recycling. The management team also includes Jaakko Soini (Technology & Growth), Teemu Koivunen (Battery Raw Materials), Frank Stumpf (Battery Recycling Services), Julius Kirkkola (Enabling Functions), and Celine Fogde (Senior People Partner).

Furthermore, Fortum Battery Recycling is delighted to announce that Pekka Alisaari will join the team in January 2026 as Director, Strategic Partnerships. Pekka brings extensive experience in battery materials and commercial strategy for the EV battery supply chain, reinforcing Fortum's commitment to being the European leader in the production of recycled battery materials.
