FRANKFURT (dpa-AFX) - Following an unusually strong performance in May, the German stock market began June with little change. The Dax rose by 0.1 percent to 25,136 points in the opening minutes of trading. Last week, the German benchmark index climbed as high as 25,438 points on hopes of a lasting peace agreement between the U.S. and Iran. However, these prospects received no further momentum as the week progressed, causing the Dax to pull back from its January record high of 25,507 points.
The MDax, which tracks mid-cap companies, slipped 0.1 percent to 33,319 points on Monday morning. Meanwhile, the small-cap SDax index continued its record-breaking run, gaining 0.5 percent. The Eurozone benchmark EuroStoxx 50 edged up by 0.1 percent.
'The Iran conflict remains unresolved, yet hope continues to prevail in the financial markets. While political reality is still defined by open questions, investors are already looking ahead toward potential peace in the Middle East,' commented market analyst Timo Emden./edh/stk
