FRANKFURT (dpa-AFX): The framework agreement between the U.S. and Iran to end hostilities spurred investors toward equities on Monday. The Dax returned to levels above the 25,000-point mark: in early trading, the benchmark index rose 1.7 percent to 25,060 points. Above this psychological threshold, the record high of 25,507 points now awaits. The MDax showed even greater momentum, climbing 2.6 percent to 32,918 points.
After weeks of back-and-forth, the warring parties were finally able to agree on a declaration of intent, which provides for an extension of the ceasefire and a reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. This was confirmed by the U.S. government and Iran, as well as the mediator, Pakistan. The agreement is intended to lay the foundation for further negotiations, which will address topics such as Tehran's nuclear program.
"Despite this undoubtedly good news, several uncertainties and open questions remain," wrote financial analyst Yannik Mosbach of Bankhaus Metzler this morning. However, investors are welcoming the developments, as significantly falling oil prices eased concerns regarding the economy and inflation. Sentiment was also bolstered on Friday in New York by the record-breaking initial public offering of the space and AI corporation SpaceX./tih/stk
