Glencore said it will restart its Alumbrera copper mine in Argentina as its targets around 1.6 million metric tons of copper production a year by 2035.
The commodities giant is the latest miner to bet big on the industrial metal. At its capital markets day Wednesday, it said it has a pathway to deliver more than 1 million tons a year by end of 2028.
Glencore said that it plans to restart the Alumbrera copper mine in the fourth-quarter of 2026. The company aims for production to begin in the first half of 2028.
Once fully operational, it expects the mine to produce around 75,000 tons of copper, around 317,000 ounces of gold and around 1,000 tons of molybdenum over four years.
