BREMEN (dpa-AFX) - There is renewed hope for the flight connection between Bremen and Frankfurt, as the Hanseatic city and Lufthansa seek a solution to prevent the planned cancellation of the route. This was confirmed by the Bremen Senate Chancellery and the airline, following an initial report by buten un binnen.
'Mayor Andreas Bovenschulte and Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr agreed in a video call today to jointly seek an economically viable solution for both parties, ensuring that Bremen remains connected to the Frankfurt hub as seamlessly as possible,' said Bremen Senate spokesperson Christian Dohle. A Lufthansa spokesperson also confirmed the discussions but declined to comment on the specifics, citing confidentiality.
Up to five feeder flights daily until now
Germany's largest airline had originally announced its intention to discontinue the Bremen-Frankfurt service as of July 1. The decision was described as part of a network adjustment based on 'demand, profitability, and operational conditions.' According to the airport, there are currently up to five daily flights from Bremen to Frankfurt. Connections to the Munich, Zurich, and Vienna hubs via Lufthansa or its partner airlines were slated to remain in place.
Bremen politicians and business leaders had voiced sharp criticism of the move. They emphasized, among other points, the vital importance of the feeder flight to Lufthansa's global network for the region's economy and scientific community./xma/DP/jha
