Intel and Google are expanding a chip collaboration focused on central processing units and infrastructure processing units.
The companies are expanding their co-development of custom infrastructure processing units, which "offload networking, storage and security functions from host CPUs--improving utilization, increasing efficiency and enabling more predictable performance across hyperscale AI environments," Intel said.
Google Cloud also continues to use Intel's Xeon CPUs, supporting workloads from large-scale AI training coordination to general-purpose computing.
"As AI adoption accelerates, infrastructure is becoming more complex and heterogeneous, driving increased reliance on CPUs for orchestration, data processing and system-level performance," Intel said.
