(Alliance News) - The battle over telecom towers is attempting to move out of the courts and back onto industrial ground.

As reported by Il Sole 24 Ore on Thursday, following the contract termination notices sent by Telecom Italia and Fastweb+Vodafone, Inwit is opening a dialogue with its main clients, while reiterating the need to uphold the agreements, which are considered essential for the sustainability of the tower company model.

The core issue remains the differing time horizons of the MSAs: Inwit maintains their validity until 2038, while the operators are targeting 2028.

Meanwhile, the litigation risks slowing down 5G investments, which require more towers, fiber, and network densification. According to some estimates, abandoning Inwit sites would mean building at least 15,000 new towers, with costs exceeding EUR2 billion and significant environmental impacts.

In the meantime, Inwit closed the quarter with revenues slightly down at EUR264 million and profit declining by 11%, though it confirmed its 2026 guidance. General Manager Diego Galli reiterated that the company will defend its rights in court but expressed readiness for 'constructive conversations' to optimize contract terms and conditions, also opening the door to discussions on inflation indexing.

Inwit's message is clear: it is better to invest in 5G development than to duplicate infrastructure with a waste of resources. Undersecretary Alessio Butti is also pushing for dialogue, while Fastweb+Vodafone CEO Walter Renna confirmed a willingness to reach an agreement. Finally, Rai Way has ruled out any intention of replacing Inwit and is hoping for a 'win-win' solution.
