(Alliance News) - Ireland's trade surplus grew sharply in December as imports fell harder than exports, data published by the Central Statistics Office showed Tuesday.
The country's trade surplus surged 20% to EUR4.91 billion in December from EUR4.10 billion in November.
Exports declined 0.2% to EUR17.00 billion in December from EUR17.03 billion in November, while imports fell 6.5% to EUR12.09 billion in December from EUR12.92 billion in November.
Ireland's trade surplus with the US fell 13% to EUR1.67 billion in December from EUR1.91 billion in November.
Meanwhile, its trade surplus with the rest of the EU rose 14% to EUR2.57 billion in December from EUR2.26 billion in November.
Notably, Ireland had a trade surplus of EUR184 million with the UK in December, compared to a trade deficit of EUR143 million in November.
