(Alliance News) - 'Reclaiming ownership of Borsa Italiana would be a detriment to Italy' and, on the contrary, a single market platform is needed 'to establish a unified European financial market.' These remarks were made by Undersecretary for the Economy Federico Freni at the Festival dell'Economia, as reported by Il Sole 24 Ore on Wednesday.
'Today, financial market infrastructures in Europe are split between Euronext and Deutsche Boerse. When Euronext and Deutsche Boerse reach an agreement, there will be a single European financial market infrastructure,' Freni stated. 'Reclaiming ownership of Borsa Italiana, assuming it were even possible, which I do not believe, would be a detriment to Italy. Today, a single EU financial infrastructure is the fastest route to a unified European financial market which, while remaining small compared to the American or Asian markets, will at least have a chance to compete.'
