According to information obtained by TV4, JAS 39 Gripen aircraft from the defense company Saab are set to patrol Greenland.
The news channel reports that at the beginning of the month, six Jas 39 Gripen landed on the island, and these are now scheduled to patrol the area. This marks Sweden's contribution to NATO's Arctic Sentry mission.
Relevant in this context is the ongoing dispute between the United States, Denmark, and Greenland over whether President Donald Trump should be granted permission to purchase the island for national security reasons. Trump's intent has faced opposition not only from Denmark and Greenland but also from other NATO allies.
U.S. Vice President JD Vance stated recently that talks regarding Greenland are still in a very early stage and are expected to continue in the coming months.
