International stocks trading in New York closed lower on Wednesday.
The S&P/BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts declined 0.7% to 165. The European index declined 0.7% to 146.96. The Asian index fell 0.8% to 221.72. The Latin American index fell 1% to 180.89. And the emerging-markets index declined 0.8% to 367.72.
Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. was among those whose ADRs traded actively.
GlaxoSmithKline PLC on Wednesday posted a slightly lower net profit for the third quarter despite higher sales and it raised its outlook for 2021 adjusted earnings per share. Quarterly sales growth beat the analyst consensus. ADRs closed 0.6% higher at $40.42.
Banco Santander SA on Wednesday said it is set to outperform its profitability guidance after reporting higher earnings in the third quarter on increased revenues and lower provisions. The Spanish lender plans to release up to about 1 billion euros on the back of a better macroeconomic scenario, Chief Executive José Antonio Álvarez Álvarez said. ADRs fell 3.3% to $3.79.
Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. swung to a profit in the third quarter, although profit and revenue fell below Wall Street estimates, MarketWatch reported. ADRs fell 4.9% to $8.93.
