International stocks trading in New York closed mostly lower on Thursday.

The S&P/BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts eased 0.3% to 167.46. The European index declined 0.3% to 150.34. The Asian index dropped 0.3% to 221.63. And the emerging-markets index fell 0.3% to 362.99.

Meanwhile, the Latin American index rose 0.3% to 189.36.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. was among those whose ADRs traded actively.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.'s ADRs traded at record levels as the contract chip maker gave a bullish outlook amid a global chip crunch. ADRs closed at $139.19, up 5% for the day but shy of the $140.05 record closing set last year.

SAP SE on Thursday pre-announced better-than-expected fourth-quarter financial results, along with strong initial guidance for 2022. ADRs closed down 3% at $135.91 but were trading 3.5% higher at $140.60 in after-hours trading following the news.
