International stocks trading in New York closed mostly lower on Tuesday.

The S&P/BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts eased 0.02% to 155.93. The European index declined 0.3% to 140.70. And the Latin American index declined 0.4% to 175.27.

Meanwhile, the Asian index rose 0.5% to 205.17 and the emerging-markets index edged up 0.1% to 335.92.

Royal Dutch Shell PLC and Weibo Corp. were among those whose ADRs traded actively.

Royal Dutch Shell PLC said Tuesday that it has agreed to acquire U.S. solar and energy storage developer Savion LLC from Macquarie's Green Investment Group. Class B ADRs closed 0.4% lower at $42.55.

Toyota Motor Corp., the last voice of caution about electric vehicles among the world's top auto makers, on Tuesday declared itself a believer and said it would make 3.5 million EVs a year by 2030. Toyota said it wanted all models in its upscale Lexus brand to be electric by 2030 in the U.S., China and Europe. ADRs rose 2.7% to $180.78.

Chinese social media platform Weibo Corp.'s ADRs closed 3.5% lower at $28.83 after the company was fined by the Cyberspace Administration of China for publishing illegal information. The CAC said Weibo had violated a cybersecurity law on the protection of minors and other laws, without providing further details. It fined the group 3 million yuan ($471,000.) According to the CAC, Weibo has been slapped this year with 44 fines for a total of 14.3 million yuan, between January and November.
