International stocks trading in New York closed higher Tuesday.

The S&P/BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts gained 2.3% to 144.73. The European index rose 2.1% to 137.70. The Asian index ticked up 2.8% to 169.05. The Latin American index moved up 2.7% to 205.55, while the emerging-markets index advanced 3.4% to 291.25.

BP PLC was among those whose ADRs traded actively.

The London-based oil and gas company gained 1.5% after the company said it and Linde PLC plan to advance a carbon capture and storage project in Texas that will enable low-carbon hydrogen production at Linde's existing facilities.

Global cruise and vacation company Carnival PLC rose 5.5% after DocGo Inc. said it expanded its health services with Carnival to offer on-ship care at eight new ports across the U.S., Canada, England and Australia.
