International stocks trading in New York closed higher Thursday.

The S&P/BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts edged up 1.3% to 167.07. The European index moved up about 1% to 152.50. The Asian index rose 1.9% to 213.77. The Latin American index ticked up 0.3% to 200.76, while the emerging-markets index rose 2.2% to 355.28.

Sociedad Química y Minera de Chile SA was among those whose ADRs traded actively. The chemical company was up 6.5% after Deutsche Bank raised its price target to $88 a share from $73 a share.

Technology company Criteo SA was down 5.9%. The decline came a day after the company reported lower sales in the fourth quarter.

GOL Linhas Aereas Inteligentes SA was up 1.6%, extending gains that began Monday after it said it entered into definitive arrangements through an investment agreement with American Airlines Inc.
