International stocks trading in New York closed lower Friday.

The S&P/BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts slipped 0.3% to 137.52. The European index ticked down 0.3% to 129.07. The Asian index lost 0.2% to 167.25. The Latin American index declined 0.4% to 176.77, while the emerging-markets index retreated 0.5% to 283.38.

Aegon NV was among those whose ADRs traded actively.

The international financial services company rose 2.5% after it said it will repurchase shares up to 106 million euros ($111.1 million) to neutralize the dilutive effect of the 2021 final dividend paid in shares. The share repurchase will begin on July 7 and is expected to be completed on or before Sept. 30.

Steelmaker ArcelorMittal SA rose 1.3% after its acquisition of an 80% stake in voestalpine AG's Hot Briquetted Iron plant near Corpus Christi, Texas, was completed.
