International stocks trading in New York closed lower on Friday. The S&P/BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts fell 0.8% to 156.20. The European index tumbled 1.2% to 141.62. The Asian index slipped 0.4% to 203.60. The Latin American index fell 0.2% to 178.87. And the emerging-markets index fell 0.1% to 332.97.

ADRS in Genfit SA soared 53% on Friday after the French biopharmaceutical firm agreed a licensing deal with larger peer Ipsen, which will also take a stake in the company.

Deutsche Lufthansa AG's ADRs rose 3.4% on Friday after the company said that it has appointed Jens Ritter as chief executive officer and Joerg Beissel as chief financial officer of Lufthansa Airlines as part of broader changes in the group's top management.

Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.'s ADRs notched up 1.5% after the company pledged to become carbon neutral within its own operations and cut emissions across its supply chain by half by 2030, as the Chinese e-commerce giant joins other global corporate titans setting goals to battle climate change.
