International stocks trading in New York closed mostly higher Thursday.

The S&P/BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts rose 0.8% to 137.91. The European index climbed 0.4% to 132.75. The Asian index advanced 1.7% to 160.13. The Latin American index moved down 0.6% to 182.87, while the emerging-markets index gained 1.8% to 272.85.

Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. was among those whose ADRs traded actively.

The Chinese e-commerce company gained 7.8% after the company said revenue in the latest quarter rose 3%, one of its weakest revenue expansions since going public but a return to growth from the slim dip in the previous quarter when widespread pandemic lockdowns disrupted supply chains and logistics.

Clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company atai Life Sciences slipped 2.4% after the company said it has initiated a clinical study with Massachusetts General Hospital, with the main objective being to develop a novel method to detect neuroplasticity through magnetic resonance imaging scans, electroencephalogram collection and clinical assessments.
