African Development Bank 2019 Annual Meetings: African Legal Support Facility holds Management Board, Governing Council meetings

06/11/2019 | 12:29pm EST

The African Legal Support Facility (ALSF) held its 28th Management Board and 10th Governing Council meetings on 10 and 11 June 2019 respectively, on the margins of the 2019 African Development Bank Group Annual Meetings held in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea. The members reviewed the 2018 activities of the ALSF and discussed the future of the organisation.

After the Board's approval, the Governing Council subsequently endorsed the 2018 Annual Report and the audited financial statements as of December 2018. They also took note of a presentation of the progress report on projects implemented in 2018 by the task manager. The reports will be available on the ALSF website www.aflsf.org.

Members of the Board have noticed the increased volume and effectiveness of the Facility's work in respect of the implementation of ALSF projects. The Board and Governing Council members also recognised the growing demand for ALSF's services; 'in 2018, the Facility had 96 ongoing projects, mostly in the natural resources, infrastructure, power and PPP sectors'.

They emphasise the importance of the Facility in the years ahead. Board members encouraged the ALSF management to continue to be innovative and strategic, and to focus on the results of its operations, and on new opportunities that arise in the rapidly changing environments of its regional member countries.

The Governing Council thanked the outgoing members of the Management Board, the Chairperson, Dorcas Auma Achapa and Professor Dandi Gnamou for their dedication and excellent contributions to the Facility. The two members will be completing three years of service on the Board in June 2019.

The ALSF team took the opportunity to engage in a number of bilateral talks with ministerial delegations from regional member countries, donors and international institutional partners attending the Annual Meetings..
