Earlier this week, the Business Secretary wrote to specific business sectors, including the tourism and advanced manufacturing sectors, encouraging them to prepare for the end of the transition period.
The publication of the letters coincides with the following advice and guidance:

1. VAT and overseas goods sold to customers from online marketplaces: Guidance has been issued detailing how online marketplaces and those who sell directly to customers in Great Britain will need to deal with VAT on goods from overseas.

2. Guidance on product safety: Guidance has been published by the Office for Product Safety and Standards to help businesses ensure that they remain compliant with product regulations at the end of the transition period.

New publications:

1. New Trader and Industry Forum: This is designed to allow you to ask questions about the preparations you need to make ahead of the new EU rules regarding trade. Our members can find more information on our website.

2. Updates to the Trader Support Service: This is for businesses trading with Northern Ireland from January.

More information on each of these factors can be found on the British Marine website.

Customs grant scheme:

The customs grant scheme has been changed to allow more people to access the funding. HMRC has also introduced a new co-funded training project - under the General Block Exemption Regulations (GBER). Through this, organisations can receive up to two million euros where they co-invest.
HMRC has taken additional steps to support traders that are less familiar with customs procedures. Traders will now be able to apply for grants of up to £1,000 per organisation to support the cost of basic customs training. This financial support will be open to businesses which have had a base in the UK for less than a year but have Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) status.

Grants will be issued on a first come, first served basis and applications will close on 30 June 2021, or earlier if the funding is allocated before this date. Click here to read more about the training scheme and apply.

Our members can keep up to date with the changes by registering for webinars from the UK Government and British Marine. More information on the webinars available can be found on our Brexit microsite.
