Bank of Japan board member Hitoshi Suzuki will postpone his scheduled visit to Fukushima, northeastern Japan, on March 5 in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, the central bank said on Friday.
The decision was made "to prevent the spread of the epidemic," taking into account recent developments, the BOJ said in a statement on the announcement.
Suzuki was scheduled to meet business leaders in Fukushima and hold a news conference. It is the first time an official BOJ event has been postponed since the outbreak hit Japan.
