A CH2M HILL-led joint venture has been awarded a contract to provide design-build services to the U.S. Navy in Africa. The Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Atlantic and NAVFAC Europe Africa Southwest Asia (EURAFSWA) awarded the $62 million design-build task order for a 185,000-square meter (SM) concrete combat aircraft loading area, three fabric maintenance hangars, a 68,000 SM asphalt taxiway extension, and an ammunition supply point required to support current and emerging operational missions at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti.
"Camp Lemonnier is undergoing a major transformation in the next few years from expeditionary to permanent facilities in support of the diverse AFRICOM mission," said CH2M HILL Program Manager Bryan Bodner. "We are ready to employ our successful overseas contingency design-build delivery model with our Turkish partners and look forward to supporting a long-time and valued client in a new market."
CH2M HILL is teamed with long-term Turkish construction partner METAG.
Camp Lemonnier, situated at Djibouti's Djibouti-Ambouli International Airport, is the only U.S. military base located in Africa. Construction will continue through 2014.
Over the past three years, CH2M HILL has completed more than $4 billion in design-build projects around the globe, including projects for the DOD in contingency environments for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Air Force Center for Engineering and the Environment, Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the U.S. Agency for International Development. Additionally, CH2M HILL has extensive experience in logistical support in remote and austere environments, including 12 consecutive years of supporting the National Science Foundation's Arctic research program supporting 8,000 field members. CH2M HILL has performed work for the U.S. Navy for nearly 25 years, including completion of 700 task orders through four Comprehensive Long-Term Environmental Action Navy contracts.
