Canadian manufacturing shipments fell in June, hit by a decline in petroleum and coal products.

Canadian factory sales declined 0.8% in June from the previous month to a seasonally adjusted 71.8 billion Canadian dollars, or the equivalent of $56.19 billion, Statistics Canada said Monday.

The previous month's data were revised to a 1.1% fall, from the earlier estimate of a 2% slide.

On a price-adjusted, or volume, basis, Canadian manufacturing sales in June rose 0.1% from May.

Total inventory levels remained at record highs, up 2.1% to C$116.4 billion in June, mainly on stockpiles in the machinery, transportation equipment and chemical product industries.

As forward-looking indicators, unfilled orders rose 1.7% to C$105 billion in June. The increases were mainly attributable to the motor vehicle, aerospace product and parts, and computer and electronic product industries. The total value of new orders rose 2.7% to C$73.6 billion in June.
