CBS welcomes first cohort of Financial Education Youth Ambassadors

The Central Bank of Seychelles (CBS) today revealed the first group of Financial Education Youth Ambassadors, during an event held virtually.

All 43 young people, aged between 16 and 30, who applied to participate in the 2021 edition of the Youth for Youth Financial Education Youth Ambassadors Programme have been selected, in a bid to maximise peer-to-peer learning and advocacy on financial education amongst the youth.

Speaking at the launch event, Governor Caroline Abel welcomed the Youth Ambassadors as part of the CBS team and noted that the programme marks a new phase in CBS' financial education engagement with the public.

"Use this opportunity to make a difference and create a positive impact in our society. Seek advice, don't be afraid to ask questions, and keep in mind that you are never too young to make a difference," said the Governor, as she addressed the group of Youth Ambassadors.

The 2021 edition of the programme will comprise of two main segments, notably a knowledge programme to introduce the participants with Seychelles' financial system as well as a skills programme to assist them in developing soft skills such as effective communications and peer counselling. The participants will also receive assistance from the National Financial Education Secretariat to develop and implement ideas and projects aimed at enhancing financial literacy in their communities.

The Youth for Youth Financial Education Youth Ambassadors Programme will last throughout 2021, and the Financial Education Ambassadors will participate alongside CBS staff in financial education activities to be held during the year.
