Operation HOPE today announced that Chelsea Clinton and Joseph Otting have joined the HOPE Global Board of Advisors. Ms. Clinton, Vice Chair of the Clinton Foundation, and Mr. Otting, the former Comptroller of the Currency, join a Board comprised of some of the country’s leading executives from business, finance, and the non-profit and NGO sectors.

Global Advisory Board members support Operation HOPE with guidance and expertise in order to fulfill its commitment of providing financial and economic empowerment for individuals, entrepreneurs and small business owners, with a particular focus on underserved communities. Both Ms. Clinton and Mr. Otting have been longtime supporters of Operation HOPE and have been featured speakers at the HOPE Global Forums | Annual Meeting.

As Vice Chair of the Clinton Foundation, Ms. Clinton works alongside the Foundation’s leadership and partners to help create economic opportunity, improve public health, and inspire civic engagement and service across the United States and around the world. She also serves on the boards of the Clinton Health Access Initiative and the Alliance for a Healthier Generation. In addition to her Foundation work, Ms. Clinton also teaches at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health and has written several best-selling books for young readers. Ms. Clinton holds a Bachelor of Arts from Stanford, a Master of Public Health from Columbia's Mailman School of Public Health, and both a Master of Philosophy and a Doctorate in International Relations from Oxford University.

“Chelsea Clinton is a force of nature, a caring soul and mother, and a leader—one absolutely wedded to authenticity and transparency—and my friend. She is a leader that the future is waiting for, on so many levels, and I am so honored to not only be her friend, but to have her to join us in service to humanity on our global board,” said John Hope Bryant, Founder, Chairman and CEO, Operation HOPE.

Mr. Otting was sworn in as the 31st Comptroller of the Currency on November 27, 2017. He left office May 29, 2020. The Comptroller of the Currency is the administrator of the federal banking system and chief officer of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. Prior to becoming Comptroller, Mr. Otting was an executive in the banking industry. He served as President of CIT Bank and Co-President of CIT Group, President, Chief Executive Officer, and a member of the Board of Directors of OneWest Bank, N.A., and Vice Chairman of U.S. Bancorp. In addition to his roles in banking, Mr. Otting has served as a board member for the California Chamber of Commerce, the Killebrew-Thompson Memorial Foundation, the Associated Oregon Industries, the Oregon Business Council, the Portland Business Alliance, the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oregon. Mr. Otting holds a Bachelor of Arts in management from the University of Northern Iowa and is a graduate of the School of Credit and Financial Management, which was held at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H.

“Joseph served this nation honorably and with distinction as the U.S. Comptroller of the Currency, overseeing more than $12 trillion in banking assets. In this role, he was almost singularly focused on advancing and improving, through the power of data and analytics and increased transparency with, the power of the Community Reinvestment Act, which was chartered in 1977 to help ensure fair banking access and reinvestment in underserved communities. This act of valor alone, this single-minded focus on improving the plight of the poor, earns him my respect, along with our 20 years of friendship, makes me proud and thankful to include him on our Global Board of Advisors,” said Mr. Bryant.

“It is with great honor that I join the HOPE Global Board of Advisors. For over 25 years of my professional career, I have watched and supported John and the HOPE Organization take on new challenges and provide creative and measurable solutions in the pursuit of inclusion and financial literacy for low- to moderate-income communities across America. We have an opportunity and a responsibility to make the American dream available to all and look forward to the journey ahead as a member of the Advisory Board,” said Mr. Otting.

About Operation HOPE, Inc.

Since 1992, Operation HOPE has been moving America from civil rights to "silver rights" with the mission of making free enterprise and capitalism work for the underserved—disrupting poverty for millions of low and moderate-income youth and adults across the nation. Through our community uplift model, HOPE Inside, which received the 2016 Innovator of the Year recognition by American Banker magazine, Operation HOPE has served more than 4 million individuals and directed more than $3.2 billion in economic activity into disenfranchised communities—turning check-cashing customers into banking customers, renters into homeowners, small business dreamers into small business owners, minimum wage workers into living wage consumers, and uncertain disaster victims into financially empowered disaster survivors. Project 5117 is our multi-year four-pronged approach to combating economic inequality that aims to improve financial literacy, increase business role models and business internships for youth in underserved communities, and stabilize the American dream by boosting FICO scores. Operation HOPE has received five consecutive 4-star charity rating for fiscal management and commitment to transparency and accountability by the prestigious non-profit evaluator, Charity Navigator.
