Cityfest, Inc. continues its year-round concert series honoring Wilmington's own Clifford Brown with a night of love songs. Clifford Brown Year-Round showcases musicians from all over the world each month leading up to the 35th annual Clifford Brown Jazz festival in summer 2022. The concert debuts in-person and online on Friday, February 18th at 7:00 p.m. with performances by Maya Belardo, Nadjah Nicole & Jea Street, Sharon Sable, V. Shayne Frederick, Darnell Miller, Hannah Carter, the CCAC Acapella Ensemble led by Stacey Harcum, and Augstine Mercante. Musical accompaniment will be provided by The Clifford Brown Year-Round house band with Jeff Knoettner on piano, Bob Colligan on bass, percussionist Jimmy Coleman, and special guest Gerald Chavis on trumpet. The live show will be in downtown Wilmington on the 4th floor of the new CSC Station.
"There are very few things that express 'love' as effectively and emotionally as poetry set to music - in other words a song," says Tina Betz, Director of the Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs. "No matter what language or musical style, a love song is understood by the heart."
The concert begins at 7:00 p.m. and tickets are $10 for virtual and $25 for in-person. Tickets are available at www.cityfestwilm.com/events, and proceeds support programs like the Clifford Brown Year-Round Series as well as others produced by Cityfest, Inc., such as the Urban Artist Exchange Eastside Neighborhood Revitalization Project and the Arts Work Youth Program.
Clifford Brown Year-Round will continue in March with "New Generations, New Experiences, New Work," an evening exploring new iterations of jazz and other art forms with everything from culinary experimentations to live painting. April's show will be the 2nd Annual International Jazz Day Awards Concert. This year the concert features the Clifford Brown Festival Orchestra presenting Duke Ellington's legendary Sacred Music Concert. Tickets now available for all upcoming shows at www.cityfestwilm.com/events .
