Communications services companies fell as rising Treasury yields spurred selling in growth sectors.

AT&T shares rose after the Dallas telecom giant reported a net gain of 691,000 postpaid phone connections in the first quarter, topping the average 413,000-phone target of Wall Street analysts polled by FactSet.

CNN's just-launched direct-to-consumer streaming service CNN+ is shutting down, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Shares of streaming-service providers continued their retreat, led by Netflix. Billionaire investor William Ackman said his hedge fund sold its stake in Netflix, implying a loss of about $400 million, as the shares recorded their biggest one-day drop since 2004 on Wednesday.
