Communications services companies fell, but not by as much as the broad market, as traders bet the sector could grow despite intensified streaming competition.

The leading streaming service, Netflix, extended a deal with Comcast's Universal that will see more Universal movies, including animated pictures from DreamWorks, available on the service.

The deal follows an accord between Universal and Amazon.com, and comes as Comcast builds out its own streaming platform, Peacock, where Universal productions also play a large role.
