Shares of retailers and other consumer companies rose amid optimism about a rebound in travel activity.

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings shares rose after the cruise line said it expects to begin offering cruises to Alaska in August, a step toward turning around a business that has been decimated by the pandemic. Rival Carnival also gained.

The U.S. Global JETS exchange-traded fund, a basket of major carriers, rose as ticket sales and airport traffic indicated it would be a busy summer for domestic travel.
