Will Europe be able to stand up to the orange tyrant? Or will Ursula von der Leyen and her European colleagues become Minions, ready to follow the directives of their new "master". For the occasion, we've imagined Trump as Gru, the character from the film "Despicable Me".

If Trump takes over the reins of the White House, we can reasonably expect an avalanche of tariffs. His latest stance, on semiconductors and China, sent European companies' shares plummeting. Now imagine Europe having to juggle sanctions. Yes, it could get chaotic!

The European Union is already considering strategies to counter Trump's potential hostile trade policies. With the Republican candidate mulling over imposing 10% tariffs on imported goods, Brussels could see its exports plummet by €150 billion a year. Suffice to say, the European Minions stand to lose a few bananas in the process.

To avoid finding themselves completely at the mercy of Trump-Gru, European officials are planning targeted agreements. The Financial Times reports that Brussels wants to favor a cooperative approach. European negotiators are considering approaching the Trump team to discuss which American products the EU could buy in larger quantities.

If negotiations fail and Trump applies higher tariffs, the European Commission is already preparing lists of imports it could slap with tariffs of 50% or more. "We need to show that we are a partner for the US, not a problem," said a senior EU official. "We will seek agreements, but we are ready to defend ourselves if necessary. We will not be driven by fear."

But that's not all. Trump has also raised the possibility of disengaging from NATO, with the reduction of the US military presence in Europe and cutting aid to Ukraine. Imagine the European Minions, panicking at the thought of losing the protection of their great leader! With a new Trump mandate, Europe can expect major political shocks...
