Shares of energy companies fell sharply as oil and natural gas gave back some of their recent gains.

Oil futures fell 1.1% to $82.50 a barrel in New York, snapping a five-session winning streak that has brought the commodity to multiyear highs.

Natural-gas futures fell 1% after the Energy Information Administration reported buildup in U.S. stockpiles.

Exxon Mobil plans to spend about $400 million expanding its carbon capture and storage facility in LaBarge, Wyo.
