FTSE 100 to Open Higher as Traders Weigh Remarks by BOE's Bailey

The FTSE 100 is seen opening higher as investors digest comments from Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey. Spreadbetting firm IG expects the London blue-chip index to start trading up 19 points. Bailey told the Sunday Times newspaper that he was concerned inflation could be elevated for longer but there is also a chance that inflation doesn't prove as persistent as feared. His comments suggested that an interest-rate rise at December's meeting is "still hanging in the balance," Unicredit analysts say. Bailey's remarks come after BOE chief economist Huw Pill said on Friday that he was "looking perhaps for reasons not to hike rates" in December, although he hadn't made a decision.
