Earnings season. Carl Zeiss Meditec, Innogy, Novo Nordisk, WPP, William Hill, Bridgestone, Taiwan Semiconductor, Japan Post, Sands China or Mediatek are among companies reporting earnings today.

Overview of quarterly earnings. In the United States, disappointment on Uber's quarterly results, which fell after the session after having increased its losses, while Activision Blizzard did better than expected. Innogy's results at half mast, but objectives confirmed. Novo Nordisk raises its 2019 forecast. Carl Zeiss Meditec slightly raises its sales target. The organic decline in WPP is more modest than expected.

At the end of the first seven months of the year, Airbus claimed 246 gross orders but only 79 net orders, for 458 deliveries. 2019 is an atypical year in which the manufacturer has already recorded 167 order cancellations, partly because some customers have opted for larger capacity aircraft but also because carriers have experienced economic difficulties. Airbus recorded 40 cancellations for the A220 (programme bought from Bombardier) and 44 for the A350 (mainly because of Etihad).

Round-Up, the return. Bayer would be willing to pay $8 billion to settle more than 18,000 claims filed in the United States against Monsanto's herbicide, according to information obtained by Bloomberg. The stock jumped on the stock market, a sign that the market believes that the German would get away with such a large sum.  However, a few hours later, the Bayer group denied it. "Such an assertion (relating to a regulation) is pure fiction. We did not even mention compensation in our mediation discussions," replied Ken Feinberg, mediator in this case since the end of May.

Heavy oil. Occidental Petroleum completed the purchase of Anadarko for $38 billion, paving the way for Total to complete the purchase of Anadarko's African assets. The operation creates a new heavy truck sector in the United States.

The ogre Broadcom. As rumors suggested, Broadcom bought its corporate business from Symantec for $10.7 billion. Broadcom, which comes from the semiconductor world, has started a diversification in software by buying CA Inc last year for $18.9 billion. The group is also looking at Tibco. Ahold-Delhaize-Kroger. Bernstein believes that a merger between Ahold Delhaize and Kroger now makes more sense, without having any specific indication on this subject.
