Government of Commonwealth of Dominica : OVER 1 MILLION FOR CABANIS WALL PROJECT

04/22/2021 | 01:06pm EDT

The Government of Dominica hosted a consultation with the residents of Roseau Valley as the Cabanis Wall project has commenced.

The consultation was held on Friday, April 16, where members of cabinet and other officials involved with the project listened to suggestions from the residents.

'This is the third intervention for the Cabanis area and all of this is just part of the road network that is being set up in the Roseau valley. The Cabanis area, which we did mention at our last budget address, and it was a promise made and it is now a promise kept. When we say something we get it done,' Parliamentary Representative for the Roseau Valley Constituency Hon. Dr. Irving McIntyre stated.

The scope of works include the construction of a 35-metre long mass concrete river defense wall; 42-metres of reinforces concrete retaining walls from heights varying from 3 metres to 8 metres; the reinstatement of the roadway to include construction of curves and the pavement and the installation of guardrails and road signs

Minister for Public Works, Hon. Cassani Laville noted that this project will boost the community's economy, saying 'The contractor is based in the valley, the CEO lives in the valley and many of the people working on this project are from this area. So you stand to benefit not only from the final product but from the employment that is being created, and the associated economic impact.'

Senior Minister and Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Reginald Austrie stated that 'this road is not only going to enhance the economic status of the Roseau Valley but it will also have an impact nationally. So this is not just something for the Roseau Valley but I believe it has national importance and the impact is far and wide reaching.'

Prime Minister of Dominica, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit then commended the MP for his efforts in getting this project underway.

'I want to commend the efforts of the Pal Rep, for his insistence on us getting this intervention done. Firstly for the safety of the residents of the Roseau Valley but also because we know the Roseau Valley is the tourism centre of Dominica and this will certainly enhance the tourism opportunities here in the valley, so we look forward to this,' the PM added.
