Health-care companies rose ahead of key earnings reports from the sector.
Shares of Pfizer rose ahead of earnings next week. The SPDR Select Sector health-care exchange-traded fund, which tracks the health-care sector of the Standard & Poor's 500, closed at a fresh record high.
The U.S. is not out of the woods yet as Covid-19 cases are rising in all 50 states, driven by the highly transmissible Delta variant, said the head of the Centers for Disease Control, Dr. Rochelle Walensky.
