IBI Group announces new R&D team

Friday, June 7, 2013

TORONTO - IBI Group's new research and development team, IBI THiNK, will play a key role in the firm's commitment to being a global leader in thought leadership, according to CEO Phil Beinhaker.

"IBI THiNK will inspire creative cooperation between our four disciplines of Facilities, Urban Land, Transportation, and Intelligent Systems," Beinhaker said. "It will offer our clients worldwide a very exciting mix of cutting-edge thinking and service excellence. Ultimately, IBI THiNK will enhance the way the company thinks globally and performs locally."

Caroline Paradise, an architect in the London, UK office, will be Head of Research and Development for IBI THiNK. She will champion the initiation and development of new R&D initiatives and apply intellectual rigor to ensure set objectives and building the R&D profile of the practice. Each initiative will follow a cradle-to-cradle philosophy being developed through the process of a project and then assessed as part of a Post Occupancy Evaluation (POE). When re-applied to a new project, it will be allowed to grow and change to ultimately continue the cradle-to-cradle process.

IBI THiNK is based on the firm's flourishing UK research and development team dedicated to improving design quality and innovation through active involvement in projects, including design for the senses, product design, and sustainability. A recent study by the group, in collaboration with the University of Salford, found that the classroom environment can affect a child's academic progress over a year by as much as 25%.

Other key members of the IBI THiNK team are Richard Young, an IBI Group Director based in Toronto, and architect Richard Mazuch as Director of Research and architect Mike Nightingale as an ambassador in the London IBI Nightingale office.
